27 July 2007- Zambia- Most gay men say it’s a relief to tell others how they feel. For many, including myself, it can feel as if a massive weight has been lifted off the shoulders. There is a sense of relief that a secret has finally been let out and all the pretending to be someone you are not can stop. Battling with your sexuality can not only be emotionally exhausting but can also damage you confidence and sense of self worth. Most guys spend some time covering up or even lying about how they feel, trying to fit in and play the straight role. Some do so for years, and this can make relationships with friends and family strained. For some men, denying who they are can make it much more difficult to have sexual relationships, not only because of the need to cover up but also through the guilt this causes. So, for most guys, coming out has a positive effect on how they feel about themselves and their relationships. It makes it possible for them to express and discover who they truly are. It gives them the possibility of finally living a full life where they are free to experience all human emotions. We will keep you posted on more about coming out
