Infetions among UK's gay teens could double within a year

Sept 2006- Gay website Puffta believes that more than twice as many
gay teenagers may have contracted HIV this year than in 2005.
Now the teen site is repeating its annual Puffta Sexy Survey to discover
the truth, and it’s asking gay 13-21-year-olds everywhere to log on to
help make its results as complete as possible.
Simon Johnson, editor of Puffta.co.uk, said: “It’s well known that sex
infections have been rising faster and faster. Many gay teens are still
not taking precautions, and we’re extremely worried that this year’s
figures will be truly shocking.
“A couple of years ago I only personally knew a handful of teenagers who
were HIV-positive. Now more and more teens are coming to the site to ask
questions or get support after testing positive.”
The 2005 Puffta Sexy Survey revealed shockingly that almost half of gay
teens had regular unprotected sex, with over a third not knowing their
HIV status. This year’s survey aims to find out if attitudes towards
unsafe sex have changed and if gay teens have any other secrets they’re
not telling us!
Teenagers are often stereotyped, particularly if they’re gay. Queer kids
are either sexually promiscuous or depressed to the point of suicide –
drug-taking, chain-smoking, Kylie-loving, ball-shy. Only Puffta.co.uk is
taking the trouble to find out what they’re really like.
With the current NHS cutbacks in STI treatment for young people, gay
teens are at risk more than ever. Britain’s sexual health education is
renowned for being poor, with many gay teens lacking even a very basic
knowledge about sexually-transmitted infections.
Gay teen website Puffta.co.uk offers sexual advice and undertakes an
annual survey to understand the sexual habits of gay teens. It’s the

This year marks the third year of the annual Puffta Sex Survey with it
asking even more questions, including when gay teens first had sex and
who with and if they have ever been paid for sex. An estimated 3000 gay
teens are predicted to take part in the survey.
