'I'm sorry' - South Africa's gay club owner

19 Feb 2008- Cape Town, South Africa- Bronx club owner Bruno Bronn has apologised to a black tourist from Belgium refused admission two weeks ago.

Last week, Bronn said Aridi Amipi had been barred because he had been there before and "caused trouble".

Amipi, however, said he believed he was denied entry because of his skin colour as his white friend from England had been allowed in.

On Sunday, Bronn said that, after getting more information from the club's manager, it appeared Amipi had been "caught in the firing line" and that it was his friend who was "a known troublemaker". He had apologised to Amipi on Friday and invited him back.

Amipi said he was not "too impressed" with the apology and would not return to the Bronx.

"The club has changed its story so many times. My English friend was allowed into the club the night I wasn't, so how could it be that he caused trouble before? He wouldn't have been allowed in."

Gay rights group the Triangle Project has helped Amipi contact the Commission on Gender Equality. A commission legal officer, Keegan Lakay, said a case application had been made to the Equality Court.
