Buju Banton Concert Cancelled Due To Gay Rights Protests

25 Sept 2006- A Buju Banton  concert due to take place in Los Angeles on 2nd October has been cancelled following complaints from gay rights groups.

The Highland nightclub and restaurant decided not to invite Banton after they received emails and phone calls from patrons criticising the Jamaican reggae star's violent homophobic lyrics.

"We felt it was the right thing to do after doing some research on the matter," said Adam Manacker, the general manager.

Buju Banton's career has been shrouded in controversy after his 1992 song "Boom Bye Bye" called for violence against homosexuals, including shooting them in the head, pouring acid over them and setting them on fire.
