Channel 4 prove lamness in poof gate

05 July 2007- Oh the irony. Big Brother scold Laura for saying "poof" but didn't mind hiring Chris Moyles who says things are "gay" on the radio. Make your minds up you massive homos. For the record, I'm not homophobic, rather, throwing 'shocking' words in to give you the impression that I'm cutting edge. I'm about as cutting a butter in a fireplace. Anyway, this "poof" business...

On last night’s BB, Laura got her chubby wrists slapped (they are still resonating now folks) for using the word “poof”. However, Channel 4 only decided to take action after numerous viewers complained. And there's me thinking that people in television had hearts. Laura first uttered the word on Sunday night’s show but BB didn’t take action at this point because they felt she had used the word in an affectionate way.

It was only when viewers kicked up a stink that they got involved. When bovine-esque Laura (remember... she's like a buffalo) used the word again in a similar context that they decided to take action.

“We took the initial view that Laura’s use of the word ‘poof’ in reference to Liam was not derogatory, no housemate was offended and was unlikely to cause offence to viewers,” explained a spokesman for Channel 4. “However, some viewers were offended and, having taken account of these concerns, we subsequently agreed with producers at Endemol to take appropriate action if there was any repeat of the comment in a similar context".

Should Channel 4 have waited for viewers to complain before getting involved? Do you even care? Have you lost the will to live? Get in touch with us via the comments box below and you might win yourself some notoriety.
