Pentecost Church is shocked of Gay and Lesbians Conference

05 Sept 2006-
The Church of Pentecost has registered its abhorrence of reports that
homosexuals and lesbians are planning to hold an international
conference in Ghana .
"The news that
homosexuality and lesbianism (gay) are gaining roots in Ghana is very
disturbing and portends danger for the moral and spiritual fabric of the
nation," it said in a press release dated September 1 and signed by its
chairman, Apostle Dr Michael Kwabena Ntumy.
"For a nation whose
social norms frown on adultery and fornication, the open espousal and
justification of lesbianism and homosexuality must be considered
horrifying.
"Lesbianism and
homosexuality are completely alien to Ghanaian culture, and a direct
offshoot of the post-modern, permissive world in which moral relativism
is hailed," the release said.
The church, according
to the release, regards the act as a grave sin, and a vivid indication
of the depravity of the moral conscience of humankind.
The release further
quoted Leviticus 18.22 and 20.13 thus "Do not lie with a man as one lies
with a woman that is detestable. If a man lies with a man as one lies
with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be
put to death, their blood will be on their own heads," the release said
quoting Lev. 18:22; 20:13.
"It is pernicious and
unacceptable that any conference of homosexuals or lesbians,
international or otherwise, could be allowed to be hosted in this
nation.
"As spiritual
watchdogs, we wish to warn of the consequential disfavour and wrath of
God on this nation if this phenomenon is countenance in any way, even if
though passive acquiescence," it warned.
The release noted that
at a time that the church is being accused in some quarters of failing
to impact the morality of society, it would be a deliberate rebellion
against God who made both male and female and instituted the union of
the two sexes, if the practice is supported.
The church reminded
the nation of the predicament that befell Sodom and Gomorrah when a
similar act was carried out.
It called on all
religious, traditional rulers, social commentators, politicians,
educational authorities and all well-meaning citizens to reject the
phenomenon outright.
The Ministry of
Information and National Orientation has already indicated that the
government will not allow the holding of the conference by the gays ands
homosexuals which was scheduled to take place on 23 September.
