Muslims Back Orombi
07 April 2006- Kampala- THE Muslim community has joined Church of
Uganda Archbishop Henry Luke Orombi to condemn former Bishop christopher
Ssenyonjo's pro-gay stance.
The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC)
spokesperson, Nsereko Mutumba, said Muslims and the Mufti, Sheik
Ramadhan Mubajje, supported Orombi's decision to excommunicate Ssenyonjo
from the Church of Uganda. He said the Muslim community did not support
homosexuality.
Speaking to reporters in Kampala on
Wednesday, Mutumba said the Muslim community was against the Domestic
Relations Bill (DRB) because when passed, it would encourage
homosexuality.
"The Muslim community is against
the DRB because we want to avoid such acts in our community," said
Mutumba. He urged the government to make homosexuality criminal.
"The government should arrest these
people. If you can arrest people who smoke marijuana, why not arrest
these ones?" Mutumba asked.
Orombi recently expelled the former
Bishop of West Buganda Diocese, when he formed the Charismatic Church of
Uganda, which supports homosexuality.
