15 August 2006- A GAY policeman is suing his force for sexual discrimination because he isn't allowed to wear an earring on duty like women officers. PC Neil Bloomfield says he has a gold stud in his left ear as a symbol of his sexuality. Hampshire Police dress code states no men can wear earrings on duty. But PC Bloomfield told an employment tribunal that "straight" colleagues got away with it. And he claimed that letting women colleagues wear earrings and not men was discrimination. He said one officer had a tongue stud, another an eyebrow piercing and some wore nose rings. The 39-year-old from Portsmouth, said: "By singling me out the force has victimised and discriminated against me." The Special Branch officer said he was branded a "crusading faggot" by a superior officer, bullied by colleagues and threatened with suspension.
