Gay Marriages Violate Marriage Institution, Undermine Children

10 Mar 2007- The South African constitution recently became the first in the world to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.

The country also became the first African state to legalise same-sex marriages although opposition remains vehement.

"Zvekuti chechi inozvipira kuchatisa mwanakomana nemwanakomana, uku kwava kupenga. Zvavakubva kuvarungu uko . . . Uhu hahusi humhuka nekuti mhuka dzinoziva vakadzi vadzo.

"We can't have that in this country. If there are some of our neighbours who want that, it's up to them. Let it never, never be our culture", said President Mugabe at the 60th wedding anniversary of Vice President Msika and Amai Msika recently.

To our President, the issue of homosexuality really touches raw nerves and it crosses ethical lines despite the fact that our southern neighbour has accepted it.

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father in heaven," reads Matthew 5 verse 16.

Surely, when the Word says God is the one who sets and removes kingdoms, it is true. In a world where morality is not only trampled upon but has become an individual preference and truth considered relative, a leader can stand up for the truth which is clear in the Bible while mentors of the Word pastors join man and man in "holy matrimony".

At least our country is guaranteed of the blessings from the throne above as the President has set a standard for tomorrow's youth that of cherishing right principles and acting upon them.

His words and stance have fed the Zimbabwean community with life-giving power, that of courage and a strong backbone to stand for principle.

The generation to come should comprise young men who will resist the tide of worldliness and lift a voice amid and above a thousand of them parading ideas and products, warning against taking the first steps in immorality and vice.

As the clouds of vice are gathering upon this generation, it will be wise for the youths to dare to be Daniels and Josephs of today, who refused to bow to an earthly mandate that detracted from the honour of God.

Many do not discern and appreciate how great is the influence of each one good or evil. Influence is a responsibility from which we cannot free ourselves. Our word, our acts, our dress, our deportment, even the expression of the countenance has an influence. Upon the impression made, there hangs results for good or evil which no man can measure.

For instance, if one throws a pebble into the lake, a wave is formed, and another and another, and as they increase, the circle widens, until it reaches the very shore.

So is influence. If by our example we aid others in the development of good principles, we give them power to do good. In turn, they exert the same influence upon others, and they upon others also.

Furthermore, what Cde Mugabe uttered, read in between the lines, goes far beyond resisting homosexuality as against African culture. It goes on to touch on the most valuable and holy institution of marriage.

The family institution is one of the pinnacles of our society. For if upheld to its exact standard values and character building engraved in the minds of children this world would be a better place to live in. Therefore, the family must be made a priority in this turbulent world for failure to do so will mean doom for the next generation.

Gay marriages do not only violate the marriage institution, they also undermine the valuable property of God children.

Of late, with the rise of these so-called marriages, these couples have been allowed to adopt children. Surely, what kind of a generation does this lead to? What kind of a child will be raised for the present society?

Are we not applying for half-baked and warped individuals for the future? Are we not creating a confused generation?

It boggles the mind to think of what will happen to a child when he tries to mix the science of the reproductive system and the reality at home.

Hence, the mishaps that awash the world today corruption, murder, immorality in its diversity is a cry for young men of ordinary ability, who give themselves wholly to God, despise all falsity and wickedness, dare to be true and brave, holding up the blood-stained banner of Jesus Christ.

Narrowing down once more to the issue of homosexuality, where do the lawmakers or those involved in this say who God is? "For I am the Lord I change not . . ." Malachi 4 verse 6. The law of God is steadfast, unalterable, for it is the expression of the character of Jehovah.

The God who said: "You should not lie with a man, as with a woman: it is an abomination." Is the same, who also emphasised in the New Testament saying: ". . . Be not deceived, neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate nor homosexuals . . . shall inherit the kingdom of God." 1 Corinthians 6 verse 9-10.

I wonder whose messengers they are those who facilitate such marriages. Thank God we have individuals who are mentors to those who stand for God who can neither be deceived nor move with the majority against principle.

Well, one may not really comprehend the intensity of this issue; creation reveals more against this practice.

God created Adam and performed the greatest aesthetic on him to create Eve his helper and companion. The pioneers of this practice have not only violated the marriage institution but the duties of both sexes to each other and the community at large and the reproductive system.

I wonder whether it would not be true to declare this sexual orientation ungodly, for it is in all ways against the will of the Creator.

This is a challenge to Christians. This is the time to gird up your loins for the coming of Christ is now at hand. For if sane people can stand against so clear a commandment, do we think history will not repeat itself, that of Sodom and Gomorrah and the time of Noah?

As one inspired writer once wrote: "The greatest want of the world is the want for men men who will not be bought or sold, men who in their inmost souls are true and honest, men who do not fear to call sin by its right name, men whose conscience is as true to duty as the needle to the pole, men who will stand for the right though the heavens fall."

Hence, man is called upon to make up his mind that he will not by word or influence cast the least dishonour upon God.
